From His Excellency Lt. General (retd) S K Sinha, PVSM ,
                           - then Governor of Assam, now Governor of J&K , 09-08-2001

"I am happy to learn that under the editorship of Air Cmde NB Singh, a monthly magazine Defence Watch related to Defence and Security matters, is being launched in September 2001.Air Cmde NB Singh has been actively associated with Defence and Security issues for a very long time. He has assembled for the magazine's editorial board, a number of eminent retired officers both from the Defence and the Civil Services as also intellectuals interested in these subjects, who have a wide knowledge of the matters. The authors of the main feature articles in a inaugural issue are individuals who are well known in the country for their expertise."

"A functioning democracy requires informed public opinion. This is particularly necessary in the filed of national security. I am sanguine that this laudable endeavour of Air Cmde N B Singh will achieve its objective. I wish the magazine all success. "

From The Statesman , January 28, 2002.

"Setting out to bridge the critical gap between the military expert and the educated layman interested in strategic affairs is the recently launched journal Defence Watch. The five issues of the monthly have set a high standard with contribution from experienced military and police officers, civil servants and academics. Unlike most other publications of that nature, the articles are neither heavy nor excessively lengthy, so that they hold the reader's interest. Another feature is their topicality; the focus is on current events and continuing situations, the result being that the expert opinion and analysis have relevance in 'real time'. Young officers in the armed forces would find them extremely useful in their mental preparation for moving up the chain of command. The journal is the brainchild of Air Commodore N. B. Singh (retd) who is making a special effort to edit the journal in such a manner that it will appeal to the target readership. Moderately priced, the publication will currently assist in the endeavour to enlighten the general public on national security issues that require much wider understanding than obtains at present."

From Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh , DFC - Dated : 08 August 02

Dear NB ,

I am sure it has given you much satisfaction to complete a successful year of your publication of "Defence watch". I have seen many points of views expressed therein which are quite different from mine. Hence, I have widened my knowiedge of military and political affairs.

The Armed Forces of our country are facing many problems with great initiative and courage under some very difficult conditions. In my opinion, they have to face such dangers for long. To equip and maintain modern armed Forces is an expensive business but under the prevailing conditions there is no escape. I hope the economic progress will not lag behind to meet this essential requirement of the security of the country.

Within the Armed Forces, the need of the hour is to have complete understanding between the services and know their capabilities and weaknesses. This will ensure good coordination it is only a joint and well-coordinated effort that can achieve the desired results in the minimum time in any battle or war.

May I wish you success in your attempts at spreading awareness in our Armed Forces and the public to face our local threats and limited participation in global affairs .

From Air Chief Marshall , O. P. Mehra . PVSM , F.A.e.S.I., M.A (Retd) -

It gives me immense pleasure to place on record my appreciation of the satisfying performance of the
"Defence Watch" in its first year of its publication. It entirely goes to the credit of the Editor , Air Cmde. N. B. Singh , who has successfully roped - in a large number of national security experts - from the civil and military streams. These experts have dealt with the security issues during their service careers and have amicably contributed valuable articles on defence - related issues and important aspects of security in the global , national and international perspectives. Such qualitative thrust have been instrumental in "Defence Watch " being related amongst the leading magazines - of the benefit of the higher echelons - the policy makers at the national levels.

I have no doubts; having set high standards for itself the sponsors of DEFENCE WATCH would soon ensure an eminent, stature , comparable only to the best in the country and beyond - for the magazine.

I wish the magazine and those who have contributed to its current stature an unqualified success in the future.
